Freedom from Porn Addiction

"I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust upon a girl.
I know full well that the Almighty God sends calamity on those who do".
(Job 31:1-3, Living Bible).

How Did This All Start?

Was it curiosity, a giggle, a laugh that got out of control? Or were you exposed to pornographic images at a very young age? I was. It doesn’t really matter how you got to this point only that you know you are stuck, hooked.
Once Satan sees you addicted, he’ll be the first to tell you how loathsome and wretched you are, oh and how you will feel that way too. Then he’ll see to it that you are tempted again and the vicious cycle starts all over. It is so destructive.
Well I only have good news to tell you:
1     Satan is a liar, you’re not loathsome or wretched,
2     You can get free and you can stay free.
My battle with porn addiction has been a long one, unnecessarily long perhaps; however I have learned through experience that only one thing works, Jesus - I tried everything else.
"THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong)
for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of
the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit".
(Romans 8:1, Amplified Bible).
Most Christians put the emphasis on “no condemnation”, but the Holy Spirit showed me that everything we need, (including “no condemnation”) is “now” in “Christ Jesus”. There's the key right there. Now in Christ Jesus!
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will
bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me,
you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked
up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in
you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father's
glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
(John 15:5-8, New International Version).
So there it is right there. If you want to achieve anything as a Christian it can only be by remaining in Christ. This is true for freedom from addiction too. Minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, remain in Christ.
How does this work in practice? The method I use is run to Jesus in prayer and remind him of His responsibilities:
1     That Satan is attacking His kingdom,
2     That I am His kingdom since He, Jesus, is my Lord,
3     That He should deal ever so severely with the attacker.
In my experience if you make it hard in this way for Satan to attack you then he will eventually go away and attack an easier target. I never stand and fight for the tempter is much stronger than I am. I flee to Christ. Christ that is in me alone has the power to overcome.
Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already]
defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He
Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.
(1 John 4:4, Amplified Bible).
OK it sounds simple and it is in principal, but it's much tougher in real life. I first tried applying this method way back in 2002 but it didn't work for me then. There are many possible reasons when it doesn't work. I cover them in the following lessons:
Lesson 1     I'm in control, I can handle it
Lesson 2     Actually, Jesus isn't my Lord
Lesson 3     I love my sin
Lesson 4     I tried it once, it didn't work
   Lesson 5     I'm just too far-gone, a hopeless case
   Lesson 6     I don't have enough faith
   Lesson 7     Let's work together
